The Mouse Quest
I received a laptop recently (an amazing blessing all its own!) and, as I was setting it up, I realized that I would need a mouse. I had less than $4 to my name, so I was considering free options around town- library rental, office surplus, etc.- I asked ChatGPT for some suggestions and they included these and thrift stores, but any purchase would need to be extremely cheap. I ended up feeling the Spirit of God settling alongside me for this quest, as I now began really considering it. I had recently read Exodus, where an image was used that now came to mind in narrative sense.
Exodus 13:21
By day the Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night.
This image ended up settling as a cloud over Goodwill. I knew that the worldly odds were low that I'd find what I needed there within my tiny budget, and it was a fair walk, but I felt a surge of Faith to give it a try. I walked over to Goodwill.
At the store I searched the electronics section and did not find what I needed, branching out into appliances as well, just in case. Then I returned to the first shelves in the electronics section and right there- top, front and center- was a wireless mouse for only $2.49. I was hoping for a wired mouse, to avoid the need for batteries, but found that there was even a battery inside it already. I was astounded, still finding myself amazed whenever the power of God manifests in situations like these. Though it seems like a small thing, it is far from small for me.
I took my remaining dollar and offered it to another shop owner on the way back for a single AA battery, in case that one wasn't working anymore, and he had an extra behind that counter that he just gave to me. In the end, the mouse works, the first battery has been working, and The Mouse Quest was a great success! It is amazing what God can accomplish, even with such seemingly tight constraints, and on almost absurdly small seeming stages.
