The Return of Tiny Lizard
Tiny Lizard is back! I just caught a tiny bit of movement while using the restroom, and found tiny lizard hiding, nearly still, behind the toilet. They had been gone for so long that I thought I was alone again and I had stopped leaving water out. As soon as I saw them though I went to get another measuring spoon of water. When I returned, tiny lizard was still back there, but I looked closer and complimented their tail. I think they knew the jig was up at this point, and likely saw the water I had just set down, so they turned toward it and started moving a few steps at a time, wildly swinging their tail about as they went, as if they heard and understood my compliment, and wanted to show off a bit. It was amazing. Welcome back, tiny lizard!
Update: Like an hour later I walked back into the bathroom and see tiny lizard standing in about the same spot, now having lost their tail! I don't get this at all. I ended up finding their tail, still twitching, and I could see no reason why it would have fallen off. I know lizards can grow these back, but still, it seems so strange, and a little sad. It almost feels like a gift, in some unusual way.
1/3/23 Update:
My friend told me earlier on the way to dinner that some lizards can lose their tails at will. Since I have no other explanation for how the tail would have disconnected, I'm going with this explanation. I noticed today, since I have decided to keep the tail on my sink, to remind me that tiny lizard is still out there somewhere, that the tail has 13 bands in total on it, alternating near white and near black. It's honestly feeling more and more like an intentional gift, especially given this number's significance and with how out of place and coordinated creatures have been acting recently. Also, tiny lizard was one of the first creatures that I suspected of acting out of place, all the way back at my baptism in August 2019. Additionally there was a time when I kept feeling a doubt, as if externally and repeatedly whispered, that I hadn't seen tiny lizard since I found one version (avatar?) dead in my house, but I had only imagined them since. Perhaps this was a way of leaving me something tangible, without the risk of being caught which still seems like a concern of theirs, in order to prove to me that they were never strictly in my mind (a stance I maintained throughout, for the record, but also had to acknowledge that I had no "proof" of). Thanks for being here tiny lizard.
