Opera (from ~2009)

Two lovers sit alone in a crowd of many pairings, also sitting by themselves.

He does not know why he’s come, she’s starting to doubt her motives as well

The room darkens, silence.  For what seems to be an eternity, there is nothing else.

Then a booming voice awakens the crowd.

Listening, no one knows what he is saying, the language is foreign

However, they all know the story somehow

It is as though the array of actors coming and going represent the confusion, the distance that separates two people.

The language barrier is at first a distraction, and then is a flash of enlightenment.

Music speaks to us all.  The language purposefully differs so that the words used cannot interfere, but the message transfers clearly in our shared communication.

For an instant we realize we never needed to speak, only to love.

As the darkness lifts, our lover is there.  Right there.

The physical distance hasn’t changed, but you are with them now.

You stand invigorated, full of the knowledge of the revelation.

You walk back into the world, intertwined

All that is left is to decide what to do with your new gift.
