I Fought to Say No

Hardest line to cross
To refuse to answer you
Even in a dream

I have conspired
With men who have passed before
So I might say no

Midnight firefights
Still led me to your doorway
Without conscious thought

But they held not you
Instead you sent your finest
Challenging me just

I wept tears of truth
Then spoke calculated words
Strictly from my heart

I glimpsed you spying
Two hearts cleaved, but still same same
I could never blame

We played it again
To reshape love's labors won
To play together

Must it always be
I approach you or you me?
In my mind, we rest
