The final approach

The final approach
As I return to Phoenix
Time dilating

Despite my failings
My eyes remained fixed on you
My heart buffeted

Numbers lose meaning
Perhaps I failed long ago
Perhaps I cannot

My mind is clouded
It has been for many years
Mislead by false hopes

In a month I'm gone
Maybe less upon receipt
We haven't the time

Take me as I am
I can only do so much
Flailing on my own

No super powers
And none on the horizon
Just beautiful thoughts

Can they be enough?
I beseech you, flex your wings
Once more, for my sake
