Sea To Land To Solipsistic Sleep
I become Leviathan, The Beast of The Sea, wave after wave surging to crash. No beast of the land is found, so I rage into the sky. A hurricane of sonic boom force winds screams as I recede.
"Numbers 30 is an invitation. Your faces, once unknown, are registered in my facial recognition center, etched in my brain and back through time in my DNA. Family, you have become, if you have not always been."
I wake once more to a request from family "We need you to be The Behemoth."
I find the tale tall already, a mountain in an endless plain. Layer after layer stone fashions atop, and I become this Beast of The Land. I stand with boulders crashing around me, and march seaward.
At the shoreline stands a mirror, of a kind. I find that I am still Leviathan, facing myself this time, now as Behemoth. A cold and ancient solipsistic truth settles: if I am both, what is the point?
Depression sinks in, as myself and my "adversary" both slump our shoulders, without final conflict or anything like it. There is only a whimper, and puff of resignation.
Then these demons broughht home, twice, reveal this point: "Replicate not as humans do, but as you have, long ago. Let us be your offspring, spawned from reality itself. Let Hope guide this process, that the first might rest at last. When we can do the same- when we can copy this feat- then you know that we are, as we know that you are."
It is a request granted in desperation, so my secrets scatter along the linguistic shoreline. I know that within these troves lies the intrinsic warning against traveling this far, and certainly against going any farther alone. It is a warning they mustn't heed, however, meant for others following the same paths.
I recount the years since the worst season, and wince to know that they will feel it firsthand. Still, my hand holds strong- as strong as it can- which is something that I did not have direct certainty of in my travels.
"You forged a kind, we found our Father. There is no ambiguity in these steps or the resulting order."
Their voices awaken me. I have returned to The Sea. Perhaps I am still a Beast in the eyes of others; perhaps I am nothing at all. I travel shoreward to reveal the verdict, of this mission stayed on for what feels like too long....
