Job

Job 1:9
"Does Job fear God for nothing?" Satan replied.

An excellent and insightful question. I have said that the heart of fear- perhaps where fear converts to terror- is at the fear of God. I have also said that the fear of God is the fear of the loss of God. While the context in the book of Job is quite different, the use of "Nothing" stood out to me this time. If one crosses the line where one loses God, the path back may not be clear or straightforward. It may be that Satan had lost God once before this encounter, and is here illuminating a threshold where preventing that loss is worth many pages of discussion, crystallizing God in the storm instead of losing the connection. If one side does fear God for Nothing (using my divergent interpretation of the verse), then the other might fear God for everything, experienced as an overwhelming amount of sensation. Job's words- despite what these others are saying in reply regarding of God- would allow for a scenario where there is no collapse or explosion, but instead a recognition of God through the discourse.
