Exhale

Single breath released
Something like ink fills the gaps
Between stage and page

But while all the same
Where could even darkness hide?
Where does light not reach?

So a hue of orange
Is expelled as tangy breath
One for us to share

Into separate lungs
Processed by different bloodstreams
Yet still same same heart

We are foreigners
As true then as it is now
These lands are foreign

Ash, dust, glass call out
Different tongues each asking why
Unheard ones screaming

Between you and I
While this is temporary
Let us hear them out

Let us use this breath
To instill a permanence
For better or worse
