Singular Courtship

If love requires two perspective to exist
And a pair separate and in some way equal to exist in purest form
How could one boast to mate God?
Understanding that the Maker of all Creation stands unchallenged in mastery of it,
I bet betting chip for chip nothing would remain in one's stack if playing this game.
No one could hope stand as God's equal on these terms
No One is precisely Who is needed, 'tis as fitting a name for the God of Nothing as I've ever heard.

No one, in full understanding, would dare stand before God a challenger,
But love is no typical game.
Does the courting spider hope to overpower his mate
Or dance just well enough to be invited to something other than dinner?

So too does man court in nonsensical ways
Stacking paper, donning fibers, shining metals, and saving stones.
But what of courting God, who has made all these things?
So some fabricate piety, build steps to sanctuaries, glorify sacrifice, and repeat words of praise.
But what of courting God, who sees our very heart?
Was anything asked but love through and through?
But what is love?
In love two must only be equal(ly) in love, as complex as that may seem.

So we writhe as we fight our given nature, casting ourselves into the forge again and again.
It could have been easy, but how then could we know what we have?
So we seek God's heart to align our own with it, through any means, then through narrow means, then in love seeking the gate.

All of this is the dance,
from papers cast aside and steps made right, to darkest nights giving way to daylight. Hope remaining, steadfast and true, and finally a short walk, between me and you.

You know I can't walk it, I'll dance all the same. If the whole world fell behind me, love will still be this fool's game. A fool's crown I'd wear well, if such were my lot given, for I'd rather be the fool than find hell in heaven.
