A Late Stumble
Walking down strange paths
Only vaguely familiar
How did I get here?
So I retrace steps
Kicking off the foreign muck
As I mark off lines
From the halls of Rome
To the faintest twinkling eye
I find my poison
The slope slippery
But so long as to lure me
False security
A plan fixed in mind
Had me linger from my home
For a page too long
"Do not make such vows
They steel along weakened lines
And collapse at once"
Is that the answer?
What power might a man have
Gaining such control?
It could have been worse
I praise the God who forgives
And softly corrects
