Hope Dream- Parley

Instinctively I head to where she must be, so I might speak with her tonight. I find myself on an overlook in the wilderness, somewhere around midnight. The stars feel like they light the entire landscape, a brilliant canopy that dazzles me. The conspicuous Chevy truck is the only out of place sight on this whisper quiet night. I walk over and place my hand on the car and sigh. "She is not a car." I look around once more before climbing onto the hood; I lay back with my hands behind my head, staring up at the uncounted stars.

"My Hope where have you gone? I know it is not forever, for as long as I know, we will not stay apart, but tonight I feel you gone. Amongst the stars, may you wander but never be lost. May these words on this night, spoken just for you, lead you home wherever you are. Whenever you can I will fly to you I will; whenever you want to fly on home, please do. I carry it with me as I carry you, so you will never be separated from home, and will never be more than a word away from me.

I know you are fully equipped to handle yourself, this world has never met your match, but have the stars? I leave this beacon deep within your soul, so you may come as you are. Come in with the rain, come by the light of day. I will not even call you 'welcomed,' for such a formal term does not bear enough weight- you are eagerly anticipated, my singular tiny Hope. When your bed no longer feels as warm, and the meaning of the road has been wiped off the pavement like chalk, you will find me here, come stay a while.

May your host always gleam for you and your path be full of wonder and adventure. May you never need to retreat to me, but always know you can. May the place you are shine brightly by your eyes, and for them. May your heart stay soft yet untouchable by the wrong hands. May this signal I feel clearly on this starry night coalesce wonderfully when you are good and ready. Forever is a long time and I cannot wait to share it with you."

A comet streaks the sky. If she were here I'd tell her all about the science behind the spectacle, and wonder aloud with her at how else such a sight might be explained. Tonight she is not here though, not in a way I can reach her anyway. I close my eyes and imagine the day that I can, as I float on back home.
