On Old Treasures and New

Matthew 13:52

"He said to them, 'Therefore every teacher of the law who has become a disciple in the kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house who brings out of his storeroom new treasures as well as old.'"

For reference, I have heard that, in historical context, bringing out both old treasures and new was considered uncouth. Some people enjoy antiques though, and Jesus himself taught The Law all the time (especially referenced in Matthew), providing fresh perspectives in most cases. Perhaps his comment here is not about discarding the old to make way for the new (traditional view of heaven), but instead finding the proper arrangement so that each augments the other (eep)?
