Our Ship Comes In

Oh the false alarms
I am remembering now
Like waves on the hull

They are muted now
Or the boat might be bigger
The oar steadier

This time is different
The crew seems exuberant
The tailwind stronger

I feel encouraged
I can imagine the beach
And aim for the shore

Some lost and some gained
I trust the footsteps in tow
We can't screw this up

Third time is a charm
Is showboating overdue?
Or a quick entry?

I vote the latter
Then again I have deferred
To my Valentine

My lover, my bride
I ache with each of these swells
Come, and come quickly
