Borrowed Words, Stolen Hearts

This is maddening
Waiting just outside your door
I see you peering

I am peering too
The passionate burn alike
Like golden starlight

Sure it's exciting
But I can smell the cookies
I just want to rest

With you I rest true
Even this distant and faint
You are enchanting

What if when I knock
My doubt expands to echo
Horrific silence

Mourn the tragic loss
Of true love or tragedy
Itself on the line

I catch your glance
Some wonderful promises
Slip through closing slats

I sought, asked, and knock
Now it feels like forever
'Till morning glory
