The Gauntlets
There was the white glove of creation
There was the black glove of unmaking
There were a number of other artifacts given to me along the way by various interested parties. They each claimed their artifact would cost this or that, would change my personality or fate in this or that way, warning of whatever curse they felt it had. That was the thing though, none of these artifacts actually worked. Not right away anyway. It wasn't like in the books where an object of power brings its own will to the table to fight with yours, and you just ask it to do something and it already knows how. They all took practice, instructions, they were like advanced technology more than magic, allowing my mind to link motions with thought which resulted in something. I had no intrinsic superpowers in this dream but these items mimicked the usual array and then some. I became quite adept in their use, and with no issues of curses or other wills to contend with, I threw everything on at once and proceeded like some kind of one man band. Normally the two gloves especially were meant to be used by different people as foils for each other, but I had them both on at once lol.
This struck me as kind of the opposite of the Night of Mysterious Objects dream. In that dream every object, even small, had a spirit for the night. It was alive and could remember everything. I made a number of friends that night, including one I have never forgotten. Perhaps these objects were possessed of a spirit as people kept warning me, but my actions that other night had echoed into this one, and these object kept quiet or in some cases whispered instruction of their use; but I had earned their trust and so they enjoyed their time with me instead of trying to dominate it. Anyway, that's just a theory as I put some things together while writing, but in the dream it took a little longer to use everything than it probably should have, but when I did figure out the use of the thing there were no strings attached. No bargains had been made, no souls sold, just a man with a new set of toys, figuring out their many uses, while witches, priests, artificers, wizards, and saints all scratched their heads in bewilderment at how any of this could be done.
