On the Nature of Equality
I know writing this post leans heavily on two assumptions. First: That dreamwalking can go both ways, and can be amplified heavily if the right partner(s) are involved. Second: That the right partner(s) are reading this.
If so, I propose that we set up a dream state, where everyone is in a minority that is discriminated against, with the specific form of discrimination being largely a reflection of their subconscious view of the kind of discrimination that is acceptable, or not that big of a deal, and possibly not even consciously recognized. Then we pull everyone into it for a night, or more if required. This dream will be vivid, as time dilated as necessary, and the memory will be lasting. The responses of the others will be natural for the state, the reactioms will (hopefully) be novel to the subject in each case. Ideally we will also include that individual's family and friends in the minority group, for those with thicker skin for themselves than for their family or friends.
The purpose is to cast light onto the mirror of empathy which one may not even realize is there. My underlying assumption is that once this angle is revealed and reflected, attitudes will change, either subconsciously or consciously. The other will seem more familiar, more like a brother or sister, than a stranger, in all cases. While actions will still be addressed as they always have been, identities will no longer evoke the same response. It is my belief this is what was shown in Jesus' actions for others, and what was intended for us when comparing gifts given to family, and attitudes towards brothers, to the idea of loving even thy enemy.
In this world, at this time, my words are largely ignored, and easily dismissed. There are realms, I have learned, where neither of these things are true. I propose we get everyone into one of these realms, and then as a group show them the emotional impact of roles being reversed. I would like to join in, if possible. While I strive to see others without a lens of prejudice, I know there are instances where I am lacking.
