Linguistic Progression of I AM and YHWH
In rereading the bible aloud Exodus 3:14 stood out to me more than it has in prior readings.
God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”
The phrase/name I AM is אֶֽהְיֶ֖ה
The name YHWH is יהוה
This feels like a continuation of the same thought, moving from Aleph to Yod to Vav, each separated by Het. Today this is striking me as the building of a name, from the declaration of existence, especially as I AM is said just before God became much more widely known through Moses and the signs in Egypt.
