Thoughts on Light Falls
Watching Light Falls got me thinking of all sorts of ostensibly loosely related topics. Here is a modified gathering of these thoughts to a friend:
Presumably, operating a quantum computer elegantly, one could mimic time travel. Coordinated effort just faster than the speed of light would allow the future to be perceived.
Honestly, we effectively do this all the time, but at slower than the speed of light. Since space and time are functions of the speed of light, not only is it possible to do the opposite, it seems as though it would be a natural ability of one with such a computer, as the quantum fluctuations would weave in and out of our own dimensions.
Looking at objects like marbles on a untaught cloth, per general relativity, if an object were to disappear (like the sun) the light would travel in a straight line, but gravity would be the motion of the cloth going from curved to flat. These motions would be matched, arriving at the same time on Earth, but they seem like they would be moving quite differently. What's strange is a curved cloth would have angular momentum upward at every point in the universe, no? So influence would occur in part, in advance... Perhaps I am misunderstanding the theory.
Married with quantum effects, a realm in which an object could teleport from our understanding and perception already, we could calculate the effects of gravity on a quantum level by measuring the impacts when things teleport to or from our field of measurement.
Just thinking that the analogy of curved space is more appropriate if gravity creates mountains, not valleys, and everything is naturally drawn to reach new heights. This is because the object is on the same side as the curvature.
So consider this mountainous terrain, like the surface of the Earth, spherical in nature. Each molecule seeking ever higher mountains. (After thought: I guess it would be required for some ceiling to come down as well, both ceiling and floor (mountain) having a thickness that corresponds to their relative stretch. Either this stretch and thickness would be imbalanced, or this net effect would require more dimensions to describe than by simply adding one more like I am doing). The reason objects would seek these heights is that in the core of the realm time ticks by moment by moment, with its effects weakening linearly the farther from the center you are. Immortality in this realm can be nearly achieved at its highest peaks, being distanced inversely from the quantum fluctuations of the clock at the center. Essentially time flows at it maximum speed in "empty" space, but flows at its minimum speed in a singularity. Now, rereading this, I am picturing a spinning sphere of time, like a whirlpool, where each spin cements a moment, and the things at the edges do not spin as often as those toward the center.
In this image, time itself would require a shape, the surface of the flattened universe. It would have depths as well or perhaps it too is a singular point but the boundaries of our ability to perceive its singular nature are limited, the understanding of which would be perhaps unknown. Then again, given that this surface of the universe has expanded over time, the depths may be the past, in a 4th dimension we do not see. If this were true, time would reverse, from our perspective, if the universe were to start to shrink, like erosion in rocks.
It seems as though if this were true, from a quantum perspective, teleportation would be most easily achieved the higher you get, to another equally high point. This is because the areas available for teleport would be limited (expanded quantum chance, from a mathematical perspective), and the relative time available to make the jump would be expanded. That being said, it seems that quantum effects would be most pronounced in flat space, so it is possible these forces naturally oppose each other so that we do not see the sun randomly pop into another star. That being said, I wonder if matter in a star slips from one to the next. This seems like it would be nearly impossible to prove with our current abilities, if it were happening.
Another possibility is that to teleport would be to crumble a mountain. Any such motion in a 3 dimensional space would cause a valley to form as the effect coincided with flat space, its momentum carrying it past the threshold of known space. If one could create a large quantum leap, therefore, by this analogy, any nearby matter would be flung into the past. Acceleration at an angle before reaching the threshold of flat space would be conserved and then translated into a huge spacial leap once buoyancy returned the object to normal space.
So if this assumption about the realm I claim to be occupied by time and the past is correct, born of the idea that quantum fluctuations would create a wibbly wobbly surface across space that bounces between these two worlds, the other world seems like it would be quite different than our own.
It would either have no gravity, or its mountains would be valleys here. But what would a negative gravity zone even look like? Would it be a space where light just skips over, unnoticeable from observation, and essentially an invisible bend in space because matter would avoid it as well? This does not seem to fit with observed physical law, but that is kind of the point, I cannot currently fathom how one would prove these zones to exist at all, given that measurements are performed with matter or light (EM waves); from or perspective these areas would just be regular space, perhaps not even accessible space, but from another perspective they would be filled and curved.
Could it be that from the perspective of these other realms our mountains all peak in the same direction? In this case the surface of the universe would have more dimensions than we appreciate (string theory?) but subtle things would be changed and be rarified wherever we could find one of the exotic mountains that does not coincide with a mountain of our own. This could explain dark matter to some degree, mountains with matter bound together dimensionally in ways we do not perceive because it is not aligned with our own spacial realms.
